BC Parks and a conservation reminder for Skaha Bluffs Park

From July 2, 2010

Skaha Bluffs Park and the adjacent Skaha Conservation Area (Sublot 18) are managed cooperatively by BC Parks, Nature Conservancy of Canada and The Land Conservancy in recognition of the fact that the natural values and species present in the area do not recognize jurisdictional boundaries. While we recognize the importance of non-motorized recreation, particularly climbing, in the bluffs, the high conservation and biodiversity values present here warrant special consideration. Creation of unauthorized trails creates an environmental impact on the lands through fragmentation of the land base, destruction of native vegetation, removal of wildlife habitat, potential for soil erosion and creation of new weed vector corridors. These actions also represent contraventions of Section 9 of the Park Act and Section 32(1)(a) of the Park, Conservancy and Recreation Area Regulation with respect to damage to natural resources within a park.

Early morning gate opening

July 18th, 2010

BC Parks have arranged with the Park Facility Operators to have the gates opened at 0500.

This makes it possible to access the Bluffs parking lot an hour earlier than previously possible. This will give people an opportunity to make the most of the cool mornings before the summer heat kicks in. This is only for the summer months, so the road signage will not be changed.
